GCFHS - history on the Gold Coast

In January 1979 the first meeting of the Genealogical Society of Qld - Gold Coast Branch was held in the home of one of the foundation members and during the early years meetings were held at the home of Thelma and Tom Rootes and the rooms at Southport Community Centre, moved to Burleigh Waters Community Centre in 1987, then to its current home in the Nerang Bicentennial Community Centre in 1989.  The Society became incorporated in 1987 and disaffiliated from GSQ in 1990 becoming an autonomous organisation.
