Delving into places: Local History Enhances Genealogy
None of our ancestors existed in isolation; they lived, worked, and played within their communities' networks. Changes in the local community directly affected the lives of those within it. Researching the local/social history of your ancestral areas can help explain the why behind ancestral actions. Employment or lack thereof, new industries/changing occupations, coming of the railway, natural disasters, etc. Researching UK Archives from Abroad How do we successfully research our ancestors when we live so far away? Once the initial research of births, marriages and deaths has been completed, it is time to look at archival records. This talk will cover record types and where they can be found; how we access the archives; whether they have been published elsewhere; whether there are finding aids; and how we can use these to further our research. Please Note: The rooms will close for research at 12:30 pm. Open to members and the public
