Family Tree Maker Special Interest Group: The first meeting for this group will be held in our rooms on Friday 3rd February 2012 at 9.30am. There is no need to book just come along with your list of questions and together we will endeavour to answer them. We cover three versions of the software, 2006, 2010 and 2011. Those members with software later than those dates can also be assisted as there are not many differences in the later versions. The cost is $1 which allows us to have a cup of tea or coffee at 11am at the close of the meeting. Please wear your membership badge as our groups are for members only. If you require any further information please contact me at eunson5253@optusnet.com.au Legacy Users Group: The Legacy group will meet on Sunday 5th February 2012 at 1pm in our rooms. Sue McKenzie presents a well researched tutorial on particular facets of this software and also allows time to answer your specific questions. Again the cost as for all special interest groups is $1 and for members only. For further information about this group please contact the convenor, Carol Browne, at cbrowne@onthenet.com.au Computer Group: The computer group will meet on Wednesday evening 15th February 2012 at 7pm sharp. Those members interested in attending do not need to book but are asked to come along early to secure a seat. This is a self help group sharing their computer knowledge to assist with genealogical research. At the February meeting I will be showing some simple formatting techniques using Microsoft Word to help in creating a book. Some of the facets I will cover will be inserting pictures, creating suitable margins and creating an index. Introduction to Family History: The next introduction to family history class will be held in our rooms on Friday 17th February 2012 from 9am till 11 am. This class costs $10, for non-members, which is refundable if they join on the day and is free to members. This is must for new researchers and a great refresher for those who are just picking up their research after a break. Bookings are essential as numbers are limited. Karen Hartley will be running the class so contact Karen at hartleykk@optusnet.com.au Scottish Group: The Scottish group will be held on 19th February 2012 at 1pm in our rooms. Oral History Workshop: Lesley Jenkins, an experienced oral historian, will facilitate the first of two workshops. The second will build on skills learned at the first workshop. The subjects to be covered are: an introduction to oral history, interviewing and research techniques, memory, equipment, copyright and making the interviews accessible. Bookings are essential. Queensland’s German Connection (1838-2012): It has been brought to my notice that a project is being undertaken by a group of writers commissioned by the German – Australian Community Centre Inc. Over the coming months contributions will be sought from Queenslanders with German ancestry and a story to tell to contribute to a book which will be titled ‘Queensland’s German Connection (1838-2012)’.
