The Society was founded in 1979 and eventually became a branch of the Genealogical Society of Queensland Inc. On 19 February 1990 the Gold Coast and Albert Genealogical Society Inc was formed. In 2005 the name was changed to Gold Coast Family History Society. The Society is a non-political, non-sectarian, non-profit making organization whose objectives are: (i) To foster and promote the study, practice and preservation of genealogy, heraldry, topography, history, biography, heredity and of family and local history and allied subjects. (ii) To foster the spirit of friendliness and co-operation and to give assistance to members through mutual sharing of information and techniques. (iii) To continue to build the Society’s reference library for the benefit of both members and non-members. We are a progressive Society of about 600 members who maintain a well-equipped research facility and an extensive library of over 14,000 records on CD ROM, microfiche, film and books.
